What is an image? Is it a visual representation of an idea, a written description conjured in the dark recesses of ones mind?
I am exploring the creation of an image by pairing visual and written elements.
As a painter the use of painter-linear elements is fundamental to my work; I believe in the process of applying paint to canvas to create a visual narrative based on reality but not grounded in it. The unifying element of my paintings is the use of spray-paint. I use spray-paint because of the juxtaposition in creating organic elements through an inorganic means. I also wish to develop the political nature of my work by incorporating the social constructs surrounding spray-paint as a commentary on our current environmental policies
As a creative writer I rely on text to create a narrative. I use word, rhythm, meter, and other poetic devices to develop my voice. My poetry explores the political nature of individualism vs. societal constructs, as well as the destruction of nature.
